OTHER & EXOTIC SPECIES

I've been selling MY grips for about two years now and I've reached one shocking conclusion.

You guys like Walnut and Cherry and not much else. Some of these exotics that I thought would be surefire sellers have barely, or never sold.

These exotic species are only available for the trigger grips. NO forearms.

HICKORY

Man do I love Hickory. Heavy with a beautiful pattern. My second personal favorite. The checkering comes out crisp and clean on Hickory.

MAHOGANY

Tightly grained with a gorgeous, rich brown finish, especially under BLO. The name is always associated with luxury.

RED OAK

Heavy and tightly grained. A pleasure to machine and finish. With a stark grain pattern that jumps out at you, I can't believe how attractive each pair is.

PURPLE HEART

Wildly flamboyant and attractive. Extremely hard. Yes, it really is that purple. Hard to tell the story through photos, but Google around for other woodworking projects made with it.

AMBROSIA MAPLE

A light colored wood with gorgeous dark streaks. Seems difficult to sand without woolies (fuzziness). I need to practice more with this species. But, it's very, very pretty.

ZEBRAWOOD

An expensive, premium, exotic hardwood with unbelievable grain. I literally gasped at the final product.

MAPLE

Basically Ambrosia Maple without the dark streaks. It's light and white.

Boiled Linseed Oil on Regular Maple (not Ambrosia)

PINE

Cheap, light-colored, sort of plain with an open grain, but easy to work. Sands to a pretty result. Has a stigma associated with it, because "um, it's pine" but I do like it.

CEDAR

Very pretty end result, but also very lightweight, which is both good and bad. Having cedar grips to go with the cedar siding on your lake house would be interesting.
